Statement 2008 How To Draw Cartoons These paintings contain a visual story of an existential cartoon world. It is a cartoon landscape of Zen Koan like T-Shirt philosophies. Inspired by early 20th century American cartoons where the simplicity and clarity of the visual vocabulary reveals and intensifies the vulgar and uncivilized subjects. There are no super heroes here, only sinners, sad sacks, nitwits, boneheads, infidels, highbrows and lowbrows, experiencing never ending sadness and grief. The endless misery of country western songs is expressed through the use of irony, sarcasm, mockery, rage, slapstick and pathos. The heartbreak of the human condition is explored here. The persistence of these emotions expose the consciousness of passing time. |
